By implementing Sue’s Strategies® methods and materials, parents and teachers are using the teaching methodology needed to successfully support their children. Because so few universities teach phonics and/or grammar skills, Sue’s Strategies® fill the gap with effective, proven teaching methods for these two vital subject areas. Explicit, multisensory, sequential Instruction is enhanced by colorful illustrations, animated videos, and memory tactics. All these teaching tools accelerate learning, and Sue’s Strategies® publishes many practice workbooks. Students need to practice to own the skill.
Sue’s Strategies® combines Dr. Jean Piaget's ideas about concrete materials and picture representations with Dr. Samuel Orton's concept of multi-sensory instruction. Dr. Brock Eide's research on dyslexic learning styles including memory techniques validate Susan’s RIPPS Method. Because Ms.Kahn has added captivating, animated videos for each concept, she attracts and maintains the student’s attention long enough to demonstrate the new skill. The illustrated texts explain each strategy as simply as possible with as few words as possible. The workbooks reinforce each new skill, and the videos also serve as a review. Using Sue’s Strategies® results in quick learning gains.
NO, but free, brief, animated videos can improve reading accuracy and fluency. Children often watch the videos several times because the content grabs their attention long enough to entertain and teach.
Phonetic Videos include reading & spelling strategies.
Grammar videos increase comprehension and fluency by teaching students the usage for parts of speech, phrases, and clauses.
Writing Videos include how to outline before writing and then how to create a T E A paragraph based on the outline.
No! If a student fails to practice a skill, it does not become part of his/her long term memory. Then a student can sadly admit, “I knew this last year.”
To achieve reading accuracy and automaticity, a child must study flashcards daily and complete syllabication worksheets five times per week for about 1 year. In addition, the student should read for one half hour per day. Then progress of 2 to 4 grade levels in reading is expected.
To achieve writing proficiency, a student should master grammar and outlining skills. Then he/she should write and edit at least 2 paragraphs per week using the T E A strategy.
The phonetic skills and the grammar skills promote reading comprehension.
In addition to Sue’s Strategies® paid publications, Sue offers two free weekly blogs as well as free animated videos on YouTube. The blog features grammar, spelling and vocabulary. The videos teach reading, spelling, grammar, outlining, comprehension, and writing skills. Check your local library for Sue’s text books.
